There has been a lot debate about what is often called “free” energy—energy that can supposedly, with the proper technology, be drawn straight out of the atmosphere, and in very plentiful supply. The debates are about whether or not the stuff truly exists or not, what it could actually cost were it to be harnessed, and if it does exist is it truly as ample and environment friendly as it is being made out to be by proponents of analysis and growth into this potential alternative energy source.

When one hears the phrase “free power device”, one could be hearing about considered one of several different concepts. This would possibly mean a tool for accumulating and transmitting power from some supply that orthodox science doesn’t recognize; a device which collects energy at completely no cost; or an instance of the legendary perpetual motion machine. Needless to say, a perpetual motion machine—a machine which drives itself, forever, as soon as turned on, subsequently needing no vitality input ever once more and never running out of energy—is impossible. However, it’s not so easy to say that a new technology for harnessing the energy “floating” in the atmosphere is impossible. New technologies replace previous ones all the time with abilities that had simply been “impossible”. Harnessing the ability of the atom for providing huge amounts of vitality was “impossible” till the 1940s. Flying human beings had been an “impossible” factor until the flip of the twentieth century and the Wright Brothers’ flight.

The greatest claim of the proponents of “free” energy is that big amounts of energy will be drawn from the Zero Point Field. This is a quantum mechanical state of matter for a defined system which is attained when the system is at the lowest potential energy state that it can be in. This is known as the “ground state” of the system. Zero Point Energy (ZPE) is sometimes referred to as “residual” power and it was first proposed to be usable instead form of energy method back in 1913 by Otto Stern and Albert Einstein. It is also known as “vacuum energy” in studies of quantum mechanics, and it’s supposed to signify the energy of totally empty space. This energy field within the vacuum has been likened to the froth on the base of a waterfall by one of the principal researchers into and proponents of Hal Puthof. Puthof also explains, the time period ‘zero-point’ simply implies that if the universe were cooled all the way down to absolute zero where all thermal agitation effects can be frozen out, this energy would still remain. What is just not as well known, however, even among practicing physicists, are all the implications that derive from this known facet o quantum physics. However, there are a bunch of physicists—myself and colleagues at several research labs and universities—who are inspecting the details, we ask such questions as whether or not it is perhaps possible to ‘mine’ this reservoir of energy for use instead energy source, or whether this background vitality field might be answerable for inertia and gravity. These questions are of interest because it is known that this energy could be manipulated, and subsequently there is the likelihood that the management of this energy, and possibly inertia and gravity, may yield to engineering solutions. Some progress has been made in a subcategory of this area (cavity quantum electrodynamics) with regard to controlling the emission rates of excited atoms and molecules, of interest in laser analysis and elsewhere.
