There are a few tips that anyone can implement to make an older refrigerator look brand new without spending a lot of money. Don’t worry if you are stuck with an avocado green refrigerator that looked great in 1970, if it works well, you can modify the color easily.

The first thing to do is a top to bottom cleaning of the refrigerator. Remove all the food and clean the inside as well. Use an old toothbrush to clean the gasket (the seal around the door.) This will also make your refrigerator more effectual.

One option is appliance paint. Your refrigerator can be re-painted in any color you chose. Be sure to only use appliance paint, not regular wall paint. Wall paint will chip off with just a few uses and your attachment will look worse than ever. Appliance paint is made to stand up to the temperature changes a refrigerator experiences. You won’t need to paint the back of your refrigerator, only the top, sides and the door. If your refrigerator is built into cabinets, you won’t even need to paint the sides.

Use masking tape or special painters tape to conceal the hilt on the refrigerator. You may want to tape off the floor, nearby cabinets and the door seal as well. Make sure if you are using a spray paint to cover the coils on the back of the attachment as well. Always follow the directions on the paint can for the best results.

Another option is stainless steel contact cover. Apply the contact paper carefully, making sure that the edges are clean and straight. Completely cover your fridge, smoothing out any bubbles with a ruler as you go. Make sure you purchase contact paper that is designed to be used on metal.

Either of these choices can give your refrigerator a brand new look that will fit any budget. You will be wondered how much a sparkling fridge can change the look of your entire kitchen.
