Hosted by Annabelle Gurwitch, best known to television audiences from her years hosting the cult favorite “Dinner and a Movie” on TBS, WA$TED proves that American homeowners don’t have to be extreme to be green. WA$TED takes the average household full of eco-horrors and turns it into a clean, green haven – saving participants serious cash in the process.

Every week, the WA$TED team, led by Annabelle along with “green” handyman Holter Graham, audits a household’s waste, energy, water and transportation consumption.

Each household is given three weeks to reduce its consumption, going on a “green regime” to clean up their acts. All improvements in energy efficiency and waste reduction are awarded to the households dollar for dollar for the recognized savings in the three weeks. Planet Green then multiples those savings by the projected savings for the year per household as a nice cash bonus for all participants.

In the first of our series of interviews from the Sustainable Brands conference in Monterey, Claire Alexander of Discovery Channel’s new Planet Green Network, tells Geoff Beattie of Cohn & Wolfe, about what we can expect to see when the channel launches tomorrow, June 4th.

Our host and resident green builder, Steve Thomas from “This Old House”, now brings you most everything you need to know on green home projects and renovations. This is a show with a point-of-view for those going or thinking of going green.

Steve gives viewers a weighed opinion that leads them to the “smart” choices when creating eco-friendly homes. He uses the collective experience of a wide range of people to let viewers know why one Green approach or product is better than another.

Green is not just about low flow toilets and fluorescent light bulbs – it’s an overarching philosophy. It involves energy efficiency, but is also about economy of process and how your decisions affect the planet. In this series, we’ll also visit some of the many factories that are now helping to supply green building materials across the country.
