Almost 8% of total cost is reduced every month using the CFL and even i have experienced it.
Solar cells are also very effective as they store solar energy(which is free to all humans!!!) and can be used when needed.
I think electric heaters and efficient water heaters can easily be replaced by families in the South Asian countries who still depend heavily on trees for firewood.
